You're on a new case. So what's your goal? To try to understand just how a kid like you can get asthma, anyhow.
Hmmm, this is a pretty tricky question...
Did you get it from running really fast until you run out of breath? Or swimming? Or did you get asthma from playing too much? Well no. You didn't get asthma from any of those things.
Is your asthma a cold that just never went away? Nope. You might have caught a cold from having someone sneeze on you, but you certainly didn't catch asthma.
All of these things - running and playing, having a cold or allergies - can all make your asthma feel worse. But none of them can give you asthma.
Sometimes people in the same family have asthma. It's kind of like when your grandma has brown eyes, and your father has brown eyes, sometimes you end up with brown eyes too. So if someone else in your family has asthma, like your mom or dad, or your grandma, or even a cousin, you might get asthma. But you might not.
So the truth about asthma is...
Well, the truth is, nobody, not even Dr. Airway, knows exactly how you got asthma. Probably, you were just born with it. But until you were around some of the triggers that make it harder for you to breathe, you probably didn't even know it!
The good news is that once you find out what things trigger your asthma, you can learn how to stay away from them. And if you use your puffer just like your doctor tells you and follow your Asthma Agent training, controlling your asthma will be a piece of cake!
